MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Merry Christmas! AND...almost Happy New Year. We have about 5 more hours until New Year's and I am not quite sure that any of us will actually make it. Knox has so far made it past 6pm which is saying a lot! Scott is making us steak and shrimp tonight and we are staying in with a few movies. Knox is finally feeling better although he still has a nasty cough. I finally quit throwing up. I didn't think it was possible to have the flu two weeks in a row! Ugh! Scott so far is healthy just lacking sleep since he has been putting up with his sick wife and son.

Christmas was awesome with our little Knox. Having him has made everything better. We started our Christmas celebration at Chad and Rae's Christmas Eve. I had Knox dressed in the cutest Christmas outfit! He looked like a little elf. So he had fallen asleep on the way to the house so we left him in his car seat to sleep. Omynce he woke up I changed his diaper and yes you guessed it....he peed everywhere! Apparently he thought the outfit was as lame as his dad thought it was and didn't want to be seen in it! I think I barely got one photo of him in it but he was so cute. So Knox and dad got their way and he spent his Christmas eve in cuddly pajamas.

We had a blast at Chad and Rae's. We ate great food and played games. Santa even came to visit the kids! Knox got to sit on Santa's lap for the second time this year! This time we even got a picture! Santa also surprised me and gave me a turquoise ring! Love it! Chad and Rae surprised dad with a rifle! He was so happy and surprised! They surprised mom with a Pandora bracelet. It is beautiful!

Christmas day we woke up early and opened presents. Knox loved all the wrapping paper and boxes. He wanted to taste everything! After we spoiled Knox and the dogs we went to my mom and dad's and they were just waking up! Heather and Ken and the twins were there so we got to see everyone open their presents. It was a lot of fun but Knox ended up being pretty fussy all day. I think he figured since Santa had already delivered presents that he was okay to start being a stinker. I actually think he was getting sick because then he woke up a few days later with a bad cold.

Knox has enjoyed playing with his toys and being with family. Tracy and the family got to come out a few days before Christmas and it was awesome to spend some time with all of them. Knox loves them and misses them already. Thanks to everyone who sent us great pictures and Christmas cards!

Knox is rolling all over the place. When given the chance he will roll everywhere! This is a picture of him when he rolled under the table we had set up to wrap presents. He is pretty tough too. Our floors are wood so I try to keep him on the blankets but it doesn't always work!

This weekend we went on our first "vacation" with Knox. We went to Price and got a hotel room. Sometimes you just have to get away. So this is Knox spending the night at the Holiday Inn. He hates sleeping in the play pen bassinet. We didn't get much sleep that night but it was still fun to hang out with Scott, Sulika, Sai, Pat and Lindseay! Sulika did some pictures for us and we got to go swimming at the wave pool! This was Knox's first time at the pool and he loved it. He is a people watcher and loved the water!

Before I am reported for child abuse I need to explain some of these pictures. The pictures with the ax are funny because Knox was dressed like a lumber jack the day he went to see Santa Claus at Ace. So Scott was putting stuff away later that day and had to take a lumber jack pictures. The pictures with Knox sleeping are two different naps he took today. He seriously doesn't settle down for naps very easily. But he settles down when he has a something over his eyes or face. If we don't do it for him he pulls something over his face himself! What a cutie

My sweet Knox sure does put up with a lot. We bought this big pumpkin to take pictures in but it didn't really work out too well. Knox was hating it and Scott later asked if I just put him in a cold yucky pumpkin or did I put a towel in it. Knox's lack of smile kind of says it all.

My dad is still in the hospital and we are hoping that he gets out tomorrow. My mom will probably have to do home IV antibiotics but we hope home health can teach her and it won't be too difficult. Needless to say it's been over a week and they are ready to go home! We love you Papa...get better soon and come home!

We decided to celebrate Scott's birthday by getting a cabin up to Moon Lake. We almost always go there every year. It was Knox's first camping trip and he was such a trooper. I just might be a first time paranoid mom so Knox looks like the kid from the Christmas Story. Needless to say the cabin did have a heater and Knox woke up sweating! He was so cute though and such a good baby. I think we left the cabin maybe once. Grammy and Papa Orme brought Kylie and Jalie up on Saturday for lunch and we hung out. It was nice to lay around and not do much of anything. Scott and I played a lot of uno. We like to settle most disagreements with a good game of uno!

Knox Rolled Over!

Knox rolled over from his stomach to his back yesterday! He seems far to young to be doing this! I hate that he is growing up so fast. He is such a strong little boy. He was playing on his play mat and I decided to put him on his stomach and before I knew it there he was on his back. He did it again and then he did it again for his dad! Last week we went to the Bluebell park to have some lunch and for the kids to all play. My mom had Heather's twins, Jakob and Kallee because Heather broke her arm really bad so she was in SLC recooperating. So Ashlie met us with Jalie and Kylie at the park. This was Knox's first outting to the park and it rained! Knox did get to visit with Aunt Colleen for the first time too and of course he loved her! The kids played in the rain and loved it!

What Scott saw

Monday morning I came home from work, sunny was in a lot of pain. We made a Dr. appointment and I went to sleep, Sunny did not wake me up for the appointment. Around 4 p.m. I was woken up with we need to go to the hospital. The first words out of Dr. Syndergard's mouth is (this is not good) he then said (you are having this baby today) They induced Sunny around 5 pm (I think it was about 5 it is all kind of one big blur) Knox's heart rate dropped and sunnys platelets dropped dangerously low we were informed we might have to get shipped to slc. The Dr. came back in and said we are taking this baby now!! They wheeled sunny out of the room and gave me the paper apron to put on over my clothes. (In my state of mind I went in to the bathroom and shut the door to put the apron on over my clothes. The next day is when I realized that is why the nurse gave me a funny look.) Through a small window I was able to watch the operation. There was about 12-15 people in a small room ( once again at least that is how I remember it) They all seemed to be in a good mood, then someone yelled everyone quiet and the room was dead silent. (at this point I think I was having a nervous breakdown) He then yelled GO!!! It was amazing how fast they worked I remember them throwing tools on the ground when they were done with them. Knox was out in under a minute! A nurse came very quickly through the doors and put knox in my arms and said follow me, we walked as fast as I could to the nursery. Three nurses immediately took knox and started doing all of their stuff including giving him oxygen. ( one of the nurses was Maleena she kept telling me all of this is normal and telling me to hold Knoxs hand, I just stood there, pretty sure I was in shock) Standing in the nursery I was asking how sunny was doing but everyone in the nursery only knew about Knox. I went back to the Room after I found out that both mommy and baby were fine. Knox was born Monday 06/27/2011 at 10:14pm weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces and 19 inches long. Sunny was back in the room with oxygen and more IV's Than I have ever seen any one ever have before, on her final IV the nurse said if this one doesn't work we will have to put it in your foot because they ran out of room on her arms. Everything worked out for the best, I am sure there are some very important details I am forgetting I will post them as I remember them. I want to thank everyone at the hospital THEY WERE AWESOME!!! and treated use great. I all so want to thank everyone that was there to help and support us we had a ton of visitors phone calls and many many concerned people checking up on us. THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE I LOVE AND OWE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU

Knox Alan Nielsen- June 27, 2011- 6lbs 10oz 19 inches

We welcomed our little boy into the world on June 27, 2011 at 10:14pm. It was quite the ordeal and we are so happy he is here and healthy.
Our story starts the Saturday and Sunday before he was born. I wasn't feeling well and Sunday night had stayed up all night sick to my stomach. I didn't think I was in labor. It felt more like ulcers or gallstones. I had a scheduled appointment for Tuesday morning for an ultra sound and that afternoon for a check up with the doctor. After staying up all night Sunday night and not being able to sleep I decided I better go in. I called in sick on Monday and called the doctor. I went in to see him at 10am. They did some labs and had me make an appointment with radiology for an ultra sound to check for pancreatitis and gallstones. Radiology couldn't get me in until Thursday. I got my blood drawn and went home to sleep. Scott was home sleeping from being at work so we napped for a while. Our phone kept ringing so I finally went to check our messages. It was Dr. Syndergaard asking me to come in, my labs were not good and he wanted to talk to me.
Scott and I arrived at the hospital and spoke to the front desk. We thought we were going in for a NST. Admitting said they didn't have orders so I went to the doctors office and talked to him. He said your labs are not good at all. Your platelets are really low and your liver enzymes are extremely high. Apparently all the pain in my stomach was from an enlarged liver. The doctor said this means you are going to have a baby today!
Scott and I were a little shocked. We got admitted, shown to a room and they started the pictocin to induce labor and a magnesium drip. The contractions started but I honestly wasn't sure what hurt the most, the contractions or the enlarged liver.
Because my platelets were so low they said I probably couldn't have an epidural. So we waited to see how fast the baby would come and to see if my platelets continued to drop. They did and the baby was under some stress and so was I. The doctor came in after a couple of hours and said we need to get this baby out. They took me in for an emergency c section. Because of all the problems I had to go under anesthesia and was out for the entire process.
Poor Scott watched from a window. He was so worried about the both of us. The next thing I knew I was in a room with people all around. Scott was by my side and holding my hand. I remember feeling my stomach to see if the baby was out. My good friend Meleena was working that night and I am so grateful for that. It was really nice to have her there. She brought the baby into us and I finally got to hold him for a bit. He was so tiny and so freaking cute!
I remember trying to breast feed him and it was hard! I had two IV's in one arm and another one in the other arm. It was crazy. Somehow my bra was still on me when I got out of the OR and so breast feeding was a bit challenging. Finally I said to Meleena just cut this thing off me!
I have to admit it is all kind of a blur. The magnesium drip that they had me on made me feel like crap. I was super relaxed but I kept getting hot flashes and was really weak.
Tuesday morning when the doctor came in he told us how serious things had been. He said if you hadn't come in when you did you could have died. I had a form of HELP syndrome. He explained that my platelets were continuing to drop and if they didn't start going up they would have to do a transfusion and then if that didn't work they would ship me to SLC. The platelets had to be shipped from there anyway. Luckily later that evening they started to come up and things started to look better. I stayed on the magnesium drip for 24 hours. It was awful. Scott stayed with me the whole time though and waited on me hand and foot along with all the great nurses. I had to stay in bed for the whole 24 hours with a catheter. Knox stayed in the room with us most of the time. It sucked because someone had to get him for me from the bassinet because I couldn't get up. Plus I was hooked up everywhere It was so uncomfortable with the incision and then not being able to get up.
Late Tuesday night I finally got the catheter and mag drip off. I laid in bed for a few hours and then finally decided I needed to go to the bathroom. Scott and the nurses helped me to the bathroom. I was so weak and in pain from the c section. But I was able to go to the bathroom and then shower! It wast he best shower I have ever had in my life! I got back to bed and then ate the best yogurt I have ever had in my life! Scott was a trooper and learned more about me than he ever wanted to know! I couldn't have done it without him!
Wed was a lot better. I was able to get up to the bathroom and take better care of Knox. I continued to try to breast feed and it was really hard.
We had SO MANY great visitors while we were at the hospital. We kept getting more and more gifts and well wishes. Thank you to all for phone calls and visits. I think Wed we had about 16 people come and see us! Thursday night I had a fever and had to get ANOTHER IV! The other three or four I can't remember had gone bad. My arms look horrible. They are so bruised up from lab draws and IV's. The nurse finally got one in so I could get an antibiotic. Thursday we planned on going home and going home is what we did! I was an emotional wreck on Thursday. My theory is that I finally felt good enough physically to have an emotional breakdown. LOL! We got everything gathered up and headed home. Knox was a little jaundice so we had to go back Friday and get him checked. We were still struggling with the feedings too. They said his jaundice was still at okay levels but he had lost one pound which was not good. So we met with a lactation specialist who gave us a lot of good information. Finally I decided to pump and feed him with a bottle (sorry probably too much information but it was traumatic that I felt like I was starving my son!) Today Knox had gained 4 ounces and was still a little jaundice but nothing series. We go back tomorrow for another weight check. Knox is eating so much better and does basically nothing but eat and sleep. He does pee but we are still waiting for a good poop! LOL! Again too much information. He is the most amazing kid and we already spoil him and love him so much. I feel really blessed that we are both here. We had the best doctors and nurses and I am so grateful to all of them. I know I was a train wreck of a patient!
Ashlie, Rae and my mom cleaned our house for us and have made us so much food! Thanks to everyone who have helped us or are helping us. We couldn't do this without you. Children really should come with an instruction manual! LOL! Thanks to all my friends and family for their prayers and love! That is how our little man came into this world. He is so precious and such a good little boy already. We love you Knox!

Today we got our 3D ultra sound! It was really neat. Baby Knox cooperated for the most part. He had his hand up by his mouth the whole time. In some shots it looks like he is sucking on it. Of course he is extremely cute!

Fantasy Canyon

Last weekend Scott and I needed to get out of the house. We drove to Vernal and went to the auction. I think we missed most of the good stuff but we walked around for a while to see what they had. Then we decided to just keep driving. We ended up driving through Naples and found Fantasy Canyon. By the time we got there through several dirt roads I was starving and I had to use the bathroom really bad. So needless to say we didn't stay long. We basically snapped a few pictures with our camera phone and headed back to Vernal.

Update on baby. He is doing so good. He is very active in my belly and I am 7 months along on Monday. We get our 3D ultra sound on Tuesday so I hope we will get some pictures to share on the blog.

Re-finishing

Scott and I had quite the weekend. Okay quite the Sunday. Friday and Saturday we finally got some of the house cleaned up. We had let it go for a little too long. Scott helped me mop the floors and we finally got some laundry done. Sunday Scott made me breakfast, French toast and bacon…he’s the best! Then we got a wild hair and decided that we should run to Lowe’s and check out the sander there. We ended up renting the sander for the baby’s floor and buying what we thought was all of the material to finish them. Boy we were wrong. We shoved that sander into my poor little car, got our Walmart shopping done and headed back to the house.

Scott started right in on the sanding and was having a hard time with the old varnish getting gummed up on the sanding pads. Well eventually we had to run back to Vernal for more sanding pads. Ran back to the house and did more sanding…..and I took a small nap. Scott was really making some headway until we ran out of sand paper….again. Third trip to Vernal and we got some dinner at Sonic. What a night…..did I mention that our microwave went out and the house is a mess again! Seriously. But the bare floor looks fabulous. We just have to sand around the walls with the hand sander. We can’t wait for it to be done with!

On another note I can really feel our baby boy moving. I think he is doing Wii dance in there. He is so active. Today I had a doctor's appointment and he said the baby's heart sounds good and that I was measuring right on target. We are getting more and more excited!

Here are a couple of pictures of the bare floor. It is kind of hard to tell right now but they look really great. Scott did a great job! Next time we will get the old varnish off with remover first!

We are half way there! I am 22 weeks along this coming Monday and still feeling really good. I do feel tired a lot so that hasn't changed much. Scott and I still can't decide on a name for our baby boy. We talk every night about options but we just haven't found the right one. Scott finished painting the bedroom and it looks great! We just need to get the floors done so we can get our house back in order! What a mess!

Mally has lost 6lbs in two weeks on her new diet. She thinks that she is starving all the time. You should see her jump and run at the sound of a russling plastic bag or the opening of a can. It's pretty funny. Bailey now thinks that he should get to eat what Mally is eating so we give him some of her diet food fixed with dry. It is sibling rivalry with them. The other day Scott got this picture of them both sitting on the same couch...well Bailey's couch. Scott said that Bailey was so mad that Mally was on his chair and was circling her and putting his face up into hers. Makes me laugh. He is such a spoiled old man!

Now that we know we are having a boy we have to paint the bedroom. The owners before us had a girl so the room is pink. Scott is working on the room as we speak. We are painting it tan and white so its just neutral. Next we have to start on the floors! Because of the smells Scott will get stuck doing most of the work. He he....Love you Scott!

Best Birthday

I had one of the best birthdays this year! The day before we found out we were having a boy! It was awesome. The morning of my birthday Scott woke me up by singing happy birthday. Then he made me breakfast and surprised me with a cake decorated like Strawberry Shortcake! It was freaking awesome and soooo good! I went to work and had tons of birthday wishes from friends and family on my phone and on facebook. Heather and the kids called and sang me happy birthday. Jakob told me that he wants us to name the baby Jakob. Kalle wants us to name the baby Bingo.

Next my mom and dad and Kylie called and sang Happy Birthday. It was so cute with Kylie singing too. Later that night we all went to the Grill for a birthday dinner. It was awesome. Scott also surprised me with 3 Glee CD's! I absolutely love them! Thanks everyone for making my birthday so special!

Well it’s official. We are having a BABY BOY! We had an ultra sound on Wed to check all the organs and to make sure we are on track for the due date of July 11th. They said everything looks really good. Our baby boy is so ACTIVE. He wouldn’t stay still for even a moment. I think Scott and I better watch out for this one! We are very excited and now it looks like we will be painting the baby’s room. The room is a light pink so maybe we will try and get some painting done this weekend. Wow….a BOY!
